5th Grade Klimt Portraits

Students learned to draw a self portrait in 3/4 turn proportion and mix paint to match their skin tone. Students then modeled their background designs after learning about Art Nouveau artist Gustav Klimt.

5th Grade Digital Paintings

Students learned how to create multiple layers of color and outline on top of a digital selfie. Students then removed their photo and merged their color and outline layers, creating a digital portrait.

5th Grade Plaster Masks

Students worked collaboratively applying plaster of paris to each others faces. Learning of many types masks and their uses throughout cultures, students then planned designs and added embellishments to their mask. Students painted their masks according to their planned design.

5th Grade Ceramic Slab Box

Students first planned and drew symmetrical designs, then transferred their designs to rolled clay slabs. Students then cut out their designs and joined their slab walls. The form of the box was decided by each student prior to creating their designs.

Students learned how to use contrast and balance in composition. inspired by abstract color form painting, students created their own designs by tacking together colored glass. The glass compositions were then fused by firing in the kiln.
